Twins Suzy and Jessica (Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen) live with their father in the city and one day they receive a letter from their grandmother Natty inviting them to visit granny Natty's dude ranch in the Wild West. (Natty, not knowing about their mother's death, initially wants their mother to come help her at the ranch). Natty is having financial problems because the ranch has too few paying visitors and; although, she has offers, Natty does not want to sell the ranch. The girls and their father go to the ranch to attempt to help Natty. At the ranch the girls attempt to prevent a real estate developer from taking possession of the ranch. However, Natty's son Bart keeps getting in the way of their plans. They have lots of adventures helping them to gain insight into their family history as they find the diary of their deceased mother.
